Pupil Premium

What is ‘Pupil Premium’?

In 2011-2012 the Government launched its pupil premium funding. The ‘Pupil Premium’ is given to schools based on the numbers of pupils in the school who have been eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) within the last 6 years. The amount received for pupil premium is currently £1345 per eligible pupil.

The funding is allocated to a range of evidence-informed strategies aimed raising standards for disadvantaged pupils (as well as all other pupils), ensuring all pupils benefit from the same opportunities and to ensure that all pupils have the chance to reach their full potential.

In addition to FSM-related funding, the school may also receive £2345 pupil premium funding for any ‘Looked after children’ (Children in Care) or 'Previously looked after children' (children who are now adopted). There is also a ‘service child premium’ of £310 for each child whose parents are in the armed forces as a means of supporting them through the challenges they face.

At Bosvigo School, an evaluation of the strategies applied will take place at the end of the academic year focusing on the academic impact of the strategies, as well as the wider (e.g. social/emotional) benefits. Changes in attendance, behaviour, and attitudes to learning will also be monitored.
