Jigsaw is a whole-school approach and embodies a positive philosophy and creative teaching and learning activities to nurture children’s development as compassionate and well-rounded human beings as well as building their capacity to learn. Jigsaw is a comprehensive and completely original PSHE Education programme (lesson plans and teaching resources) for the whole primary school from ages 3-11 (12 in Scotland). Written by teacher and psychotherapist, Jan Lever MBE (services to education) and teachers, and grounded in sound psychology, it also includes all the statutory requirements for Relationships and Health Education, and Sex Education is also included in the Changing Me Puzzle (unit). Jigsaw has two main aims for all children:
• To build their capacity for learning
• To equip them for life
Jigsaw brings together PSHE Education, compulsory Relationships and Health Education, emotional literacy, mindfulness, social skills and spiritual development.

Implementation
Our RHSE programme (Jigsaw) is designed as a whole school approach, with all year groups working on the same theme (Puzzle) at the same time at their own level. There are six Puzzles (half-term units of work) and each year group is taught one lesson per week. All lessons are delivered in an age- and stage-appropriate way so that they meet children’s needs. Each Puzzle starts with an introductory assembly, generating a whole school focus for adults and children alike. There is also a Weekly Celebration that highlights a theme from that week’s lesson across the school encouraging children to live that learning in their behaviour and attitudes.

Jigsaw enhances and supports the Bosvigo Learning Characters and complements the additional Pastoral Support that the school provides for all of its stakeholders.
Impact
The successful approach provided by Jigsaw to teaching and learning RHSE at Bosvigo School results in a cohesive and high quality spiral curriculum that provides our children with learning experiences to support them to navigate their world and to develop positive relationships with themselves and others. We seek to help children understand and value how they fit into and contribute to the world with a strong emphasis on emotional literacy to build resilience and nurture mental and physical health. Jigsaw lessons also include mindfulness allowing children to advance their emotional awareness, concentration, focus and self-regulation.
Enrichment
By engaging with the community, locally, nationally and globally on many areas of spiritual, moral, social and cultural learning, we aim to arrange visits and invite guests in to embed and extend our learning. In return, this also makes our learning tangible with real life opportunities to question and reflect on religion, beliefs, concepts and practices. As a school we are continuously developing our bank of resources: artefacts, books and online. Where possible, we work in a cross-curricular way involving RHSE, literacy, drama, music, art, history and geography within out RE lessons.
